Dear Rochester School District Community,

I consider it a true privilege to serve as your Superintendent of Schools. I am honored and excited to start this next chapter of my career in Rochester, a community that is focused on providing a high-quality learning experience for every student. Rochester School District is doing great work and is known by many in the education world as a hidden gem. As our Rochester Mission states, we want to prepare students to graduate from high school:

Prepared for…

Lifelong Learning, Rewarding Careers and Productive Citizenship

By Embracing…

Accountability, Adaptability and Academic Excellence

As a community, through our work together, we will assure our kids receive the education they deserve.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been an educator for more than 30 years, spending 15 years in the classroom as a math, band, and general music teacher. My husband Kurt and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We enjoy spending time together engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, walking our dogs, and windsurfing. In July, we moved from the Puyallup area to Rochester and are enjoying getting to know our neighbors, staff, students, parents, and the Rochester community.

As an educator for more than 30 years, I take my responsibility to provide a quality and well-rounded education for all students very seriously. As your Superintendent, it is my #1 goal to maintain and grow a rigorous educational environment that allows all students to feel a sense of belonging and to grow academically. For students to belong and grow academically it is important that we provide a well-rounded learning experience. In addition to the academic core of English/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies we also need to provide high-quality CTE, Fine Arts, and Health and Fitness programs. And, the learning opportunities during the day need to be balanced with clubs and athletics to allow students to thrive in school and as member of our community.

Educating our youth and preparing them for their futures will play an important role in sustaining a strong Rochester community.  Join me in supporting the important work of educating Rochester’s kids.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Bethman Ed.D.

Rochester School District Superintendent
