Hello Rochester Primary Families;

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year! I hope you have been enjoying the time with your children. Each summer your RPS staff spends time reflecting on the previous year and preparing for the upcoming year. This summer our teachers participated in powerful professional development  to equip us to provide high quality instruction.  Our teachers’ work included instructional strategies to engage students and how to sequence questions for better understanding.  In addition, we are trying new English/Language Arts materials and the staff has had training in using them.  I am excited about all we are learning and all that we have been doing to prepare for your child(ren) this fall.

The school is shiny and bright from all of the work the teachers and custodians have done to prepare the building for your child(ren).  Please join us August 31, 5:00-7:00, to meet the teacher, bring in school supplies, and enjoy a frozen treat from FAST (Family and Schools Together).  There will also be a brief presentation about our Title I and support programs.  Representatives from First Student (bus service) will be on hand to answer bussing questions.

We have had the opportunity to hire new staff to fill the shoes of treasured staff members that are moving on to exciting new adventures in their lives. Mrs. Moog, Mrs. Jeans and Mrs. Belmont have retired.  Mrs. Pitkin has moved to GMES. While they will surely be missed, we are fortunate to have found several highly skilled teachers to join our team. Mrs. Sjoboen moved to RPS from RMS.  Mrs. Vatne came to us from Head Start. Mrs. Patrick and Mrs. Jaeger are coming from other school districts.

The excitement of a new school year is not lost on me.  I too will have trouble sleeping the night before the first day of school.  I look forward to the students filling the hallways with their enthusiasm and our staff greeting them with the hope of what is to come.

If you are able to be a part of the educational experience here at RPS, please come in to the office and sign up to volunteer.  We have a variety of short term and long term roles you may fulfill.

Proud to be your principal,

Amy Nelson Roney
