Remedial Programs...

Rochester Primary School provides a variety of remedial services and support staff for students who are struggling in one of the basic academic areas of the curriculum.

Title I is a federal program that provides help for students who are having difficulties in reading and math. Students are referred to Title I by their classroom teachers and/or by schoolwide testing programs that help to pinpoint problems as early as possible. Title I provides extra help for students in the necessary subjects, so they continue to do normal grade level work in their classroom, while they receive extra help to make sure they understand and make progress in the classroom curriculum.

Bilingual Education provide "English as a Second Language" classes for children who do not speak English. ESL instruction also includes teaching children to read and write in English, and continues to support students until they reach a minimum level of fluency in all three areas of English - speaking, reading, and writing.

Migrant Education provides extra help and support for migrant children whose families move frequently in order to find work. Migrant Education provides help to children in reading, language arts, written language, math, and study skills. Migrant Education also provides a liaison between the home and school in order to help migrant children make transitions between schools as quickly and smoothly as possible.
