Thematic Unit: Finding Friends Wind and Stick To It
Phonemic Awareness - Hearing and distinguishing sounds in words
Emphasis on beginning and ending sounds in words
Reading and spelling cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant) words
Print Concepts - Title, direction (reading left to right, top to bottom), and one-to-one
correspondence (pointing to each word as it is read).
Penmanship - Formation of letters on the "road" (lines on the paper).
Reading Comprehension - Asking questions, predicting, confirming predictions, clarifying,
drawing conclusions, making connections, cause and effect, visualizing, reality vs. fantasy,
sight word recognition, and vocabulary.
