Accelerated Reader Program...
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a supplemental reading program that gives students practice utilizing the reading skills they have learned through the Open Court reading instruction they receive each day. Once students are able to read library books, they are tested to identify their specific reading levels. Students then choose books to read at the level of difficulty that is best for them. Once a book is read, the student logs onto a computer to take a quiz to determine if the child was able to comprehend what was read. Points are awarded to the students based on the length of the story, the difficulty level of the text, and their performance on the test. At Rochester Primary School students are awarded certificates and have their picture displayed on banners in the gym as they accumulate identified numbers of points.
