Graduation Requirements:

To graduate, a student must successfully complete 29 credits to include 17 required credits and 12 elective credits in four years of high school. The required classes and the total credits needed for a high school diploma are mandated by the State of Washington and the Rochester School District.

Requirements to graduate from Rochester High School are:

  • Two credits of Mathematics.
  • One credit PE/Health
  • One credit PE
  • Two credits of Science to include a freshman Science and a Biological Science.
  • Four credits of English.
  • Four credits of Social Studies to include a Washington State History/Civics, World History, U.S. History, and Current World Issues/Pacific Rim.
  • One credit of Occupational Education (may include any class in Home and Family Life, Business Education, Vocational Agriculture, or Shop.
  • One credit of Consumer Education (seniors only-starting in the fall of 2005).
  • One credit of Fine, Visual, or Performing Arts.
  • Twelve elective credits. Students should select elective classes that best prepare them for their goals after high school.

The Graduating Class of 2008 must also meet these additional requirements:

  • Earn a Certificate of Mastery: Students must meet the standard of the 10th geade Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science in 2010.

  • Complete a Culminating Project: This integrated learning project asks students to think analytically, logically, and creatively; integrated experience and knowledge to solve problems; and understand how their ethic will affect future career and education opportunities.

  • Craft a High School and Beyond Plan: Students must detail their plan for getting to graduation and succeeding in college, work, travel, etc.

New Market Vocational Skills Center

Rochester High School is part of a seven school district cooperative which offers advanced job training to 11th and 12th grade students through the New Market Vocational Skills Center. The skills center functions as an extension of the high school and allows students who have received clearance through the RHS Counseling Center to pursue job readiness training in the following areas:
