In the State of Washington,
Board of Directors are policy-making bodies consisting of local residents,
whose purpose is to govern each local public school district. Each Board
of Directors sets the policies by which the local schools operate. The
Board has final control over all local school matters, subject to the
limitations placed on it by the Washington State Board of Education,
and by federal and state laws.
Board members receive
no pay for serving on school boards. They are reimbursed only for personal
expenses resulting from Board business.
Regular meetings of
the Board must follow a standard agenda. The agenda is prepared by the
Superintendent of the local school district in consultation with the
Directors. Individuals or groups who wish to place an item on the agenda
need to advise the Superintendent prior to the preparation of the agenda.
There are two opportunities for public input at each Board meeting.
